PROCEDURE: Mr. Craighead strives to make every portrait a timeless work of art worthy of many generations of enjoyment. To that end he will employ live sittings, photography, or a combination of the two. Most often, in consideration of the sitter’s schedule, Mr. Craighead will take photographs with a digital camera and if time permits paint a head and shoulder study. The photography session will take from 2 to 3 hours to complete and is often best done in the morning. For the head and shoulder study, Mr. Craighead will need about 3 hours either during the afternoon of the photo session or on a following morning. Mr. Craighead will take the photographic reference material and the head and shoulder study back to his studio. For three quarter and full length portraits he will make a small preliminary painting (8"x10") that he will send to the client. The purpose of the preliminary painting is to show the client what Mr. Craighead has in mind for the pose, background, and general coloring of the finished portrait. When the portrait is finished Mr. Craighead will send a photograph of the painting to the client for approval. If the client is within driving distance Mr. Craighead will present the portrait himself, otherwise the portrait is shipped to the client’s location in a sturdy container.
